The Americans dominated the President’s Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia this past week/weekend to retain the cup. Fred Couple’s team was dominant. David Toms represented Louisiana golf very well by going 3-1 (3 wins and only one loss) in the four matches he played. In fact, he was so dominant that 3 of the 4 matches were won by the 14th hole. Toms’ record was matched by Phil Mickelson and only surpassed by Hunter Mahan at 4-1 and Jim Furyk at 5-0. Both Toms and Mickelson voluntarily sat out Saturday’s four ball pairings. Therefore, Toms and Mickelson were tied for the Americans’ third best record of the twelve-member American team. Tiger Woods, who admittedly improved during the matches and got the media attention by winning the cup-winning point, had only a 2-3 record. Congratulations David!
The Louisiana Book Festival was held near the Louisiana State Library and on the Capital grounds on Saturday, October 29. Cypress Tree Publishing had a table to show off our first book Louisiana Golfer’s Paradise: The Audubon Golf Trail. Myself and my wife, Bebe Tulley, were there all day long. We got started very early by moving all the display material to the table. The biggest problem the entire day was the strong wind which wreaked havoc continually with our display. I had prepared three large matted photos for the table. These were bludgeoned and scarred by the impact with the ground following several wind blasts. Our sign, which was propped up on an easel, suffered a similar fate. It finally ended up flat on the table to prevent this. Thank goodness for sticky velcro!

Bebe and I met a lot of people. We would like to thank our friends for stopping by -Fatemeh Malekian, Julie Perkins, Anne and Hawlkey Wolfe, Thomas Landis, Carol Lammi-Keefe, Larry & Virginia Summral, Carol Fitch, Laurie Bourg, Carrrie Pena, and the Allens-Susan, Jessie, and Brooke. There were also a lot other others we got to meet and greet. It was nice to see Patrick Keefe, author of Redneck Gravy with a table near ours. His book is very funny and well written.
